1. Blackjack tips start with basic strategy

2. Choose the right blackjack table
Before you sit, read the rules: blackjack pays 3:2 (never 6:5), dealer stands on soft 17, double after split allowed, surrender available, fewer decks. Bet a small share of your session bankroll per hand (about 1%). Set a loss limit, a win limit and a time limit before you start – then stick to them. Avoid chasing losses: the urge to "win it back" is what turns a small loss into a big one.
8. Play sober, with breaks
Fatigue and alcohol cause mistakes that erase the 0.5% you worked to learn. The free drinks at the table are not charity.
9. Ignore seat superstition
The player at third base does not "cost the table" with a bad move. The cards are already shuffled – over many hands it evens out exactly. What your neighbor does is irrelevant to your expected value.
10. Learn with a trainer, not with cash

11. Understand your casino's variation

12. Avoid side bets
"21+3", "Perfect Pairs" and similar side bets carry a house edge of 5%+ – often over 10%. They look exciting and quietly wreck a clean blackjack strategy. Avoid them.
